Moodle Mania

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Well let us start things off with Moodle.  Though it has been around a few years, it seems to finally be taking leaps and bounds in some of the K12 districts around us.  Moodle is a wonderful open source (free!) CMS – (Classroom Management System)  very much like Blackboard or WebCT.  You (or your tech director) can install it on just about any platform (Mac, PC, Linux, etc.) and have a great community of online classrooms with just a little elbow grease.

You can find all you’d ever want to know about Moodle at Moodle.org. You can download the free application, get great documentation and free support in the forums.  And it is FREE – no worrying about if the budget can sustain the cost for this year, or three years down the road.

Professional Development – always important, professional development is a must for Moodle.  I’m creating a Learning Moodle Site for all to access with ‘cheat sheets’ for teachers and even a few short videos to show how to work with a Moodle classroom.  Take a look and pass it along: Click here for the Learning Moodle site.

So, your comments, questions, ideas are always welcome. Tell us how you are using it so we can all learn and share!

Welcome to The K12 Geek!

Monday, February 26th, 2007

It has taken me a while, but I’m now in the blogosphere… kind of feels like scuba diving only different. This space will be committed to the K12 Techie environment, mainly dealing with instructional technology issues, but I reserve the right to “geek-out” and go all techie at times. Much thanks to my buddy Kel for his inspiration to get me going on this.

So embrace your inner K12 Geekness and join me for a ride in a new environment to encourage 21st Century Learning practices.
