Monday, June 30th, 2008Teacher banned for a year
Monday, June 30th, 2008I’m just about to leave for the first session at NECC and happened upon this video story on CNN. Digging further, also found it here at DetentionSlip.org.
Here’s what I find a bit appauling:
Here are the facts: 149 out of 150 parents signed a permission slip to have the book taught. The administration, however, feels that inspiring inner-city kids to achieve goals is not high on the priority list.
I want to think about this a bit before I comment further, but my first reaction is a bit of outrage.
What do you think?
Smilebox Media Presentation tool
Tuesday, June 24th, 2008Just saw this on Tech Crunch before I shutdown for the day:
Smilebox Media Presentation tool.
Smilebox released its desktop media client for Mac users today. The Flash-based tool can be used to compile digital slideshows, postcards, scrapbooks, and other arrangements for sharing photos and videos with friends and family.
Pretty cool! Looks like I”ll be busy tonight!
Lectures to go reinforce learning
Tuesday, June 24th, 2008Great use of podcasting technology to reinforce learning…
For Fort Sumner Spanish teacher Sandra Wertheim’s class, the boost from the little device made it much easier to deal with weekly vocabulary words: Her voice rang through the ears of students who got the lesson through the Zune.
“No one could help them at home,” she said. “Now, they don’t need anyone. They have me. They take me home.”
Freshman Ashley Stinnett noted the convenience of not having to take books home and said she benefited from being able to rewind Wertheim’s podcasts and hear the Spanish words over and over.
“Instead of thinking, ‘How did she say all these words?’ I have it right there with me,” she said.
